Is every gospel artist a Christian?

The title of this post may seem strange to you but it is a question I have often considered. Especially when people ask me 'So how do you describe your music?' in reference to genre. At first I was so afraid of describing myself as a 'gospel' singer, because I didn't feel worthy or perfect enough. How ironic when I was not even saved on merit but by God's goodness. And is it not every believer's responsibility to proclaim the good news(gospel) both in word and in act.  If every one of the great men/women who did great exploits for God in the bible let this said feeling to overcome them, will the words we so esteem in the holy pages today be but mere paper? Isn't it funny how the devil(through people) can have our conceptions twisted?

To the listeners, the promoters, mangers et al, every song that has 'Jesus' in it or makes hint or a reference to God is 'gospel.' Anyone can write songs about God and  not mean it, the same way a pastor can preach but not practice what he preaches. Those that are true followers of Christ know how to discern. I mean real discernment (Mat 2:16-20) not those that are constantly trying to use people's past mistakes as evidence of their inadequacy.

The personal conclusion I have come to on this is that....
One may write and sing songs that direct people to God( irrespective of motive), and people may in turn through your songs(if you be so privilege) seek the Lord and be saved. But if you fail to connect with the name you proclaim, you do nobody a disservice but yourself.

~Read your bible, do what it says and SHIYNE on!
